History of Elementor Page Builder

Elementor was created by Yoni Luksenberg & Ariel Klikstein in 2016. The version 1.0.0 was released on December 12, 2016. The early Elementor adoption and use sky rocketed with its very feature rich free version. One could build a good website just using the free version of Elementor.

The Elementor Pro version was the natural next step and now it offers 85+ Pro Widgets. The Elementor team released free Hello Theme in 2019, which has over one million installs. In 2019, Elementor also acquired Layers WP, a WordPress theme company. In 2025, more feature rich Hello Biz Theme was released.

Elementor has also expanded in offering Hosting service that comes with Elementor Pro (acquired Strattic in September 2024). Also, they are regularly launching various new WordPress plugins and services for website builders.

Why is Elementor Page Builder popular

Elementor’s drag and drop interface makes it super easy for non-technical users to builder website layouts on WordPress. It is loaded with features allowing users to do way more within Elementor ecosystem without the need for additional plugins.

Elementor does face criticism for bloated code and slow speed. They have been focusing on performance updates to address these concerns. Like the new CSS first Editor v4 and experimental CSS-only carousel, showcased at Google I/O.

Elementor thrives on the huge user community and the access to a big collection of third party addons for Elementor.
